Goals
For those who want to reap the benefits of the Atelier program, a
structured set of classes is taken in an order, so that the the
students are taught to see -draw-paint sequentially. Classes consist
of
exercises each class day that are meant to train their eye, offering
consistently higher challenges with which they can work on their
strengths and weaknesses. The overall objectives of the Atelier
program is to provide consistent class structure and choices, so that
the artist can become at ease with the language of painting and
drawing. This form of teaching is rare, and when the opportunity for
this kind of learning style is chosen, the benefits of a strong
foundation in art training is gained. The ultimate reward is that of of
an engaged and open learning mind, a seeing eye, and better hand
coordination skills that enhance the
student artist's artwork exponentially. It is not uncommon for great
progress to be made for those that apply themselves to this style of
learning, especially for those new to the craft of painting. New
students are like an empty slate, and if given the right tools from the
beginning, can make great strides forward. Those already skilled find new things constantly being learned and reinforced as well.
The Atelier is directed by a formally trained art instructor who bonds
with the students. The quality of the educational classes that fit
into the Atelier mode are not the average short and quick workshop
experience- where the student comes and goes- never to work with the
instructor again.
Thus the benefits of a continuous building block approach can never totally achieved in that kind of all too prevalent hit-and-miss art instruction.
If you truly want to expand your abilities, and learn to see with the
artist's eye and mindset, then join the Atelier for ever expanding courses.
You will not be disappointed if your goals are to fine tune your art,
or to learn from the ground floor up. These methods are tried and
true and part of a unique history in the world of art education and
instructional methods used by the masters throughout history, as well in the great art schools.
For those who wish only a quick review or overlook into a medium, we
welcome you to classes as well. You do not have to feel that you are
excluded for merely wishing to pursue a quick jaunt through the fields
of art making. We welcome your vitality to do so. I do think that
once you see the genuine benefits of learning in an Atelier setting,
you will quickly become one of the family of dedicated and motivated
student artists. Artists progress at various rates, and class
exercises are geared to make learning your new artistic skills more
meaningful. Sometimes the end is not clearly seen for some time, but
inevitably a light goes off, and the AH HA moment is heard, and
appreciated.
We welcome you to join us in the ATELIER: Academy of Fine Art and Design
